"Rush" To Judgment

“Wild Oklahoma” host, blogger, and former radio personality Ron Black, has agreed to contribute his thoughts from time to time on OKPNS. His first piece is on the national conservative talk show hosts and decision ’08.

Something very strange happened on the way to the polls…Rush Limbaugh inserted himself, making the booth very crowded indeed.

Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and others have made the decision to reach out to conservative voters by playing an intellectual game of three card monte, hiding the truth about who the “real conservative” may or may not be in this race. For three months, nationally syndicated talk radio hosts have put together concerted effort to undermine the credibility of Sen. John McCain’s candidacy as a so-called conservative while at the same time, forgetting the inconsistencies of all of the GOP candidates. By way of illustration:

1. Rush, Sean and Laura have advocated for Mitt Romney because McCain’s position on illegal immigration is too “liberal.” Evidently, they have forgotten the fact that Mitt Romney has a shady past on immigration.

2. Syndicated talk radio has targeted McCain as a liberal because he worked with Kennedy on the arguably deplorable McCain/Kennedy Immigration Plan. But wait a minute – didn’t our hero, Ronald Reagan, grant 11 million illegal immigrants amnesty? And didn’t Mike Huckabee provide tuition breaks for the children of illegals in Arkansas? They (syndicated talkers) talk about how illegal immigration is a “national security issue,” but our ports are not? Didn’t Rush Limbaugh himself support the turning over of our ports to the UAE – to Dubai Ports World? Pot. Kettle. Black.

3. Syndicated talk radio has overlooked Mike Huckabee’s insatiable appetite for increased taxes as Governor of Arkansas.

And the icing on the rhetorical cake has been the issue of the 2nd Amendment. Mitt Romney still supports a ban on so-called assault weapons because they look so darned scary. Yeah. That, friends, is a conservative posture, isn’t it?

The reality of this Presidential election cycle is that we’re choosing from the evil of a whole bunch of lessers and the end result is so-called talkers doing so out of both sides of their mouths. While they attempt to crucify John McCain for the fact that he’s not a member of the John Birch Society, the polling results underscore the fact that they are unbelievably out of touch with the average Republican voter.

The average Republican voter knows full well that Hillary presents the biggest problem for American economic growth – not John McCain. One wonders how long it will take Rush and Sean to figure that out…
